The South African Pump Manufacturers Association (SAPMA) was established 54 years ago and was registered as an employers’ organisation in 1981, and is federated to the Steel and Engineering Industries Federation of Southern Africa (SEIFSA). One of the primary objectives is to look after the interests of the pump manufacturing companies in South Africa.
The primary membership of the SAPMA includes members who are actively engaged in the manufacture, fabrication and/or assembly of pumps. Provision is also made for Second, Associate/Individual and Affiliate Membership.
The Association promotes ethical business practices and offers an ideal platform for its members to network with relevant industry players, discuss issues such as government legislation, labour laws and general matters affecting the steel and engineering industries within South Africa, as well as the sector.
SAPMA’s key Objectives
- Regulate relations between members, employees and trade unions.
- Promote the interests of members.
- Plan and organise its administration and lawful activities.
- Promote, support or oppose any proposed legislation posing a threat to the interests of its members.
- Further the interests of the industry through public relations activities.
- Obtain, collate and distribute relevant information from the industry to its members.
- Create and maintain employment within the South African Pump Industry.
SAPMA takes on projects that are designed to benefit the industry, specifically through a training course in pumps. The next training course will be the ECSA Accredited Training Advanced Pumped Course that will be held on the 22nd– 23rd August 2017.
It will consists of;
- A set of Comprehensive Advanced Pump Course notes
- A memory stick with :
o Vibration standard: ISO 10816 parts 1-7
o Balancing standard: ISO 1940 parts 1-2
o Pump Testing standard: ISO 9906
- API 610 Pump Standard
- Electronic Steam Tables
- Electronic Conversion program – Imperial to SI Units or SI Units to Imperial
- Friction Calculation – Excel spread sheet
- A certificate with the candidates name with the activity – CPD number will be printed and presented to the candidate at the end of the two day pump course
- Lunch, Refreshments and Material.
The training session will be facilitated by Willem van der Westhuizen who obtained a Masters Diploma in Technology T5 (Mechanical Engineering) in 1987 and Master of Science in Engineering (MSc – Mechanical Engineering) in 1997 at the University of the Witwatersrand – Johannesburg. After training periods at Sulzer Pumps – Winterthur, Switzerland and Sulzer Pumps South Africa he joined the Turbine Plant Engineering Design Department of Eskom. He has 26 years’ experience in Power Station critical pumps which includes selection, evaluation, manufacturing, testing, installation, commissioning and trouble shooting.
The Association strives to help industry players to be prolific and to ensure that the sector actively participates in the South African economy.
